Porcelain veneers in the Woodlands change dull, uneven, marred teeth into straight, sparkling smiles in just 2 dental visits to Johnny Taylor DDS. Made from fine, tooth-shaped ceramic, veneers cover one or more teeth and last for years.
Healthy teeth can have poor aesthetics
The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry calls the teeth right in the front of the mouth the “smile zone.” While those teeth may be perfectly healthy, dietary choices, congenital malformation or an assortment of small chips or cracks often ruin smile aesthetics.
Enter the world of cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Johnny Taylor offers comprehensive smile makeovers featuring a range of services that brighten, smooth and straighten not so perfect-looking smiles. One of his most popular treatments is application of custom-fabricated porcelain veneers.
What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers, or dental laminates, are tooth-shaped shells of beautiful, dental-grade ceramic. Custom-made according to Dr. Taylor’s specific instructions and the patient’s oral impressions, porcelain veneers bond right to the front side of cosmetically imperfect teeth. Adding a naturally attractive look and a measure of durability, too, Woodlands veneers give patients confidence to smile, laugh and speak in public without fear of showing discolorations, gaps or cracks.
The veneer process
After a thorough oral exam, x-rays and other kinds of imaging, Dr. Taylor ensures that he and his patient agree on aesthetic goals. In fact, Dr. Taylor may even preview the finished smile for the patient! He then removes a slender slice of enamel from each tooth so that when veneers are in place, they fit comfortably and bite together well.
At the dental lab, a master ceramist makes a 3-dimensional model of the individual’s mouth so he can customize the veneers with the right color, shape and size just right for each tooth. He carefully follows Dr. Taylor’s treatment plan to achieve the perfect result.
At the next dental visit, Dr. Taylor uses special etching liquid to prep the tooth surface, and he bonds each Woodlands veneer in place. He varies the shade of the bonding cement so the tooth blends in well with surrounding teeth and also has a very natural color.
Life with veneers in the Woodlands
Patients adjust quickly to their porcelain veneers, and they testify to their great look and to the self-confidence they bring to everyday life. People care for their veneers with simple twice a day brushing and daily flossing. And, of course, Dr. Taylor wants to see his cosmetic dentistry patients every 6 months for routine cleanings and check-ups.
Patients with veneers should limit staining foods and drinks such as blueberries and coffee, black tea and red wine. Additionally, they should treat their veneers gently, never opening packages with their teeth or chewing their pencils or fingernails.
With good care, porcelain veneers will last for many years–10 to 20 years or even more. They are a great, permanent addition to a healthy smile.
