When you’re looking for the right dental provider for your family, it’s common to have questions, and Dr. Johnny Taylor, your Woodlands dentist has answers for you! We have a few frequently asked questions and answers for you here, however we always encourage our patients to contact us with their uncertainties or concerns, especially if we don’t cover them today.
How Often Should I Have a Cleaning and Check-up?
For most patients, Dr. Taylor recommends that you come in every six months for a routine cleaning and check-up. Children should also see their dentist very six months starting around the age of two. Patients who struggle with periodontal (gum) disease may need additional cleanings to help keep their condition under control.
Why Do I Need X-rays?
While we can detect many issues with a thorough examination, some conditions appear internally first. X-rays are an important diagnostic tool that Dr. Taylor uses to see what’s happening in your mouth. For example, decay is often detected on an x-ray first, and by catching it in its earliest stage, you’ll be able to treat it with a less invasive dental filling. We typically recommend that diagnostic x-rays be taken once per year.
What are Dental Sealants?
A dental sealant is a protective coating that goes over the chewing surface of your molars. It fills in the pits and grooves that are susceptible to tooth decay and keeps cavities from developing. Sealants are typically recommended for children, however adults who are prone to tooth decay can also benefit from them.
Is Teeth Whitening Right for Me?
Has your smile lost a bit of its luster? Sometimes you just need a quick boost and whitening your teeth may be the solution. Dr. Taylor can determine if whitening will work for your needs and if so, we use the ZOOM! in-office whitening system. ZOOM! is very fast and can be completed during one appointment and it’s proven to leave teeth 6-10 shades lighter.
How Long Does it Take to Get a Crown?
We value your time and Dr. Taylor is proud to utilize CEREC technology, which allows us to complete an aesthetically pleasing and fully functional porcelain crown in one short appointment at our office. Having a crown done would typically take 2-4 weeks to complete and Dr. Taylor understood that this wasn’t convenient for most patients. For this reason, he invested in CEREC, which also makes the process of fabricating your crown more precise and comfortable by utilizing 3D technology.
