It may seem too good to be true, but there is a way to fix your teeth without the bother of cumbersome wires and metal pieces crowding your mouth. Invisalign is the name of this convenient route to a beautiful smile. Custom molded to each patient’s teeth, Invisalign aligners are designed to encourage movement of your teeth gradually until achieving the final, desired position.
How Does Invisalign Achieve Straight Teeth?
Patients are instructed to wear their Invisalign braces for at least 20 to 22 hours a day. The process begins with visiting your orthodontist for an initial fitting. In most cases the patient returns every two weeks to get a new set of aligning trays.
How Long Does the Invisalign Process Take?
Typically, the process takes 12 months, but this is not a set and fixed time frame, as everyone’s teeth and dental situation are different. With a typical allowance of .25mm movement to teeth per aligner, the overall time of the process depends on such things as teeth crowding, gapping, and patient adherence to the standards for the necessary time spent with daily wear. Most patients, however, will experience noticeable changes within the first 4-6 weeks.
Proper Care of Invisalign Braces
It is important to remove your aligners before eating, clean them thoroughly, then brush and floss your teeth before re-insertion. This will prevent the accumulation of harmful bacteria that can cause plaque buildup, and contribute to unpleasant breath.
You can brush your aligners with a soft-bristled toothbrush, cloth, or cotton swab. If unable to access these items, an occasional substitute is to rinse your aligners with warm water. It’s also important to remember to never leave your aligners in a hot, enclosed space, or place them in a dishwasher, which could cause them to melt.
The Advantage of Invisalign
The primary advantage of Invisalign is the aesthetics of it. A discreet way of adjusting your teeth, it allows you to smile with confidence throughout the process. It is also a very attractive course of orthodontic correction for teens, who tend to be more conscious of appearance, offering them the ability to correct their teeth without the anxiety that can be caused by wearing metal wires and brackets.
Your Invisalign aligners also contribute to better oral health because they allow you to thoroughly clean your teeth, something that is much more challenging to do with metal braces.
You can now have the look you desire on terms that are much more convenient for you.
